Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside Welcome Billy's Lifeline Volunteers and Clients for Afternoon Tea at Town Hall
In a heartwarming gesture of community appreciation, the Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside welcomed volunteers and clients from Billy's Lifeline to South Tyneside Town Hall yesterday for a special afternoon tea. The event, held in the grand surroundings of the town hall, was a celebration of the tireless work of the charity and the meaningful impact it has had on the lives of those in the local community.
The Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Fay Cunningham, praised the charity and they work that we do to offer hope and strength to those navigating some of the darkest moments in their lives.
The afternoon tea provided an opportunity for volunteers and clients alike to connect in a relaxed setting, with refreshments and conversations flowing freely. The Mayor and Mayoress took the time to personally meet with attendees, listening to their stories and offering words of encouragement.
One of the charity’s Trustees, Marcie Briggs, expressed gratitude for the recognition:
"It’s truly wonderful to be here today and to see our efforts appreciated by the Mayor and Mayoress. Our work is often emotionally challenging, but events like this remind us why it’s so important to keep going. Knowing we are making a difference in people’s lives is what drives us."
The Mayor reaffirmed her commitment to supporting our postvention initiative across the borough, hoping to strengthen partnerships with local organisations like Billy’s Lifeline.
The afternoon tea was more than just a social gathering; it was a powerful reminder of the strength found in community, and a celebration of the everyday heroes who give their time and energy to make South Tyneside a better place for all.
