Our Mission

We are dedicated to supporting families and loved ones who have lost someone to suicide.

Based in the Northeast of England, our primary focus is on establishing a secure and compassionate environment where individuals impacted by suicide can access immediate practical and emotional support. Our goal is to alleviate the stigma associated with suicide loss and actively promote mental well-being within our community.

Why We Do This

Billys Lifeline was set up in memory of my brother Billy Knott who sadly passed away in 2019, leaving behind many loved ones whose lives he touched deeply.

Billy was not just my brother he was also a son, a dad, an uncle, and a great uncle, as well as an extraordinary and wildly funny friend, cherished by many for his kindness, loyalty, and compassion.

In the aftermath of Billy’s passing family and friends tried to support each other but losing someone to suicide is a difficult, painful, and individual journey.

We had no professional advice or practical guidance when dealing with his personal affairs and found access to resources and emotional support limited at best. We also battled with the stigma attached to losing someone this way which meant that people and professionals sometimes did not know what to say, how to help, or even who to sign post us to. This left a lot of people feeling alone and isolated in their grief with nowhere to turn.

Coping with this situation left us with a lot of unanswered questions. It made it difficult for us to process our grief, rationalise the situation or move forward with our healing.

Hence the reason we setup Billy’s lifeline in an effort to help others.
